The American International School of Lesotho, or AISL, celebrated its first year of operation at the start of the 1991 1992 school year. An official international school, registered with and supported by the United States of America Department of State and Office of Overseas Schools.
AISL is a unique school dedicated to academic excellence and personal development for children aged between 3 and 14 years of age who attend Preschool through to completing Middle School in Grade 8 The school began as a one building campus in Maseru West and is now a larger campus in central Maseru next to the United Nations offices.
We currently have 2 different nationalities being represented among our student body. We are proud of this diversity and feel that the differences that people bring to the school help us become stronger.

“Our school is small and diverse in its student and teaching population.”
Our Story
The American International School of Lesotho (AISL) is a non-profit, independent coeducational day school which offers an American style educational programme to students from Preschool (age 3) through Grade 8. The School, serves the needs of the International, wider community, and other students seeking an American style education delivered in English. The school year is divided into 3 trimesters extending from August to November, December to March and March to mid-June.
Having an internationally recognised accreditation for the school is important. AISL is accredited through the Middle States Accreditation (MSA) based in the United States. We perform a self study reflection on our practices and resources and are then rated against international standards. This way, AISL can be compared with other accredited schools around the world. Our next MSA visit will be approximately December 2022.
